Fanny Lu completed her studies in Colegio Bolívar and then later went on to study at Universidad de Los Andes (University of the Andes). In 1994, she became a TV presenter. Afterward, she went into the music industry.
On 16 October 2009, Fanny Lú was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Fanny's debut album, Lágrimas Cálidas (Warm Tears), was released in 2006. The album was an instant hit in Latin America, especially in Colombia, where it spent five weeks at #1. The lead single "No Te Pido Flores" (I'm Not Asking You for Flowers) also spent seven weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts in Latin America, Colombia, Perú, Venezuela, and México, and has received numerous amount of airplay in Latin radio in the U.S., the song has also peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and #1 on Billboard's Tropical chart. The second single from her debut album is the song called "Y Si Te Digo"(And If I Tell You) and it peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. Rumors were circulating that the third single from the album would be the song, "Te Arrepentirás" (You Will Regret It).
On December 8, 2008, Fanny released her second album Dos (Two) in Colombia with much anticipation. There, the album went straight to number one in its first week. Dos was released the following week in the United States and Puerto Rico on December 16. The lead single "Tú No Eres Para Mi" (You Are Not For Me) has been heralded as the official song of the year in Colombia, after being the #1 song played on radio for 12 weeks. This single also peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks in April 2009. In the months preceding the release of the album, Fanny has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and the United States to promote it, with much success.
Fanny Lú was nominated for two Lo Nuestro Awards. The ceremony took place on February 21, 2008 and aired on Univisión. She was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year under the Tropical-genre categories. In 2009, she was once again nominated for Female Artist of the Year under the Tropical-genre category.
The album’s overwhelming success transformed Fanny Lu into a full-fledged star, and she has since embarked on a small tour of America that has included stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, and Washington, where she was invited to perform at the White House in honor of Colombian Independence Day. Fanny Lu was also dubbed the voice of Beth for the Spanish version of Open Season, a hilarious animated adventure about a domesticated grizzly bear and a fast-talking mule deer.
